INTRODUCTION TO AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY course covers the history,
development and application of modern agricultural technology for crop production,
processing and handling of produce. This course will also introduce students to
enclosed system in modern agriculture. Students will know about social, technical and
environmental aspects during agriculture technology transfer, acceptance and
CROP PRODUCTION SYSTEM is designed to equip students with basic knowledge and skills on production and management of crops such as rice, maize, sweet potatoes, tapioca and coconut in meeting national food supply. Students will learn the standard operating procedures, harvesting and post-harvest handling of crops production. Students are also exposed to method improvement program and commercialisation of the crops.
NURSERY MANAGEMENT course is designed to equip students with knowledge
and skills on principles and techniques to set up and manage plant nursery. Students
will learn on plant breeding, propagation techniques and maintenance activities.
Students also are exposed to commercialization of nursery product.
FERTIGATION TECHNOLOGY course is designed to equip students with basic knowledge and skills on potential, principles and maintenance using fertigation technology. Students will learn management of high value vegetables using fertigation technology. Students are also exposed to cultural practices for crop production.
CROP PROTECTION will expose students about basic concept of crop protection, the importance of crop protection economy, types of selected crops pest, methods of crop protection control such as integrated pest management. This course also discusses on types of pesticides and the law enforcement in crop protection management.
POST HARVEST TECHNOLOGY course is designed to equip students with basic knowledge and skills in post harvest handlings and technology for commercial agricultural produce. Students will be exposed to various post harvest technology such as drying, chilling, ozonation and irradiation. Students will also learn how to perform post harvest technology application to selected commodities.
INTRODUCTION TO AQUACULTURE is designed to equip students with the basic
knowledge and exposure to the aquaculture industry. It covers the introduction, history,
importance, regulation and certification of aquaculture industry. This course also
provides students with the basic knowledge about aquaculture water sources,
aquaculture system and management.
WATER QUALITY introduces the basic concepts of understanding water quality management in aquaculture, as it relates to aquatics organism growth and health. It also emphasizes on the aspects of water quality parameter, which determines the suitability of water for aquaculture. This course also provides a practical hand-on approach to water quality principles and management of water quality in different culture systems and hatchery.
LIVE FEED CULTURE introduces students to the knowledge and skills in live feed preparation and culture technique. This topic focuses on both live feed groups of plankton (Zooplankton and Phytoplankton) which covered both outdoor and indoor culture activities. At the end of this chapter, students will be able to carry out live feed harvesting and storage activities.
BREEDING TECHNIQUE AND MANAGEMENT introduces the broodstock management and breeding techniques in aquaculture. This topic also covers source and development of broodstock. This topic also emphasized on breeding methodology with hands-on approach. Student will learn how to manage and prepare broodstock and facilties. Student will be able to conduct a fish breeding method.
FISH PROCESSING AND PACKAGING aims to provide a basic knowledge and skills in downstream aquaculture industries and its packaging techniques. This course requires students to produce selected downstream cottage products. It also covers some aspects of quality control and quality assurance in downstream fisheries industries.
ORNAMENTAL FISH CULTURE is conducted to equip students with the knowledge and skills in breeding and nursing techniques of common ornamental fish. This course also covers the general biology, disease, quality control, harvesting and marketing. The topic also equips the students with the knowledge of good aquaculture practices.
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE covers knowledge of genetics, ecology, physiology and biochemical processes in plants and animals. The morphology, anatomy and taxonomy that include vegetative and reproductive, structure and function of plants and animals will be discussed. In plants and animals genetic, reproduction system, inheritance of qualitative and quantitative characters, heritability, selection methods for self- and cross pollinated crop also will be discussed. Plant physiology covers seeds germination, growth and plant development, photosynthesis, respiration, translocation, water relations and plant growth regulators. The biochemical aspects include introduction to structure and function of protein, carbohydrate, lipid, nucleic acid, enzymes reaction and its application in genetic engineering.
